Soi Rommanee: Rommanee means happiness in Thai. And this used to mean a street brothel, as phuket.index.com notes. Today the houses in colonial and Chine-Portuguese style are beautifully colored and you find here coffee shops, bars, guesthouses, souvenir shops and art galleries. For example: Art and Culture Asia office, Tam Eng Bozique, Glasnost Café Bar and a Tea House. Kerri Hall adds in fahthaimagazine.com: "Interestingly, the entire right side of Soi Rommanee has been renovated while the left side of the lane remains lined with original Chinese shophouses."
